There has been a lot of speculation regarding Bethesda’s future plans regarding their games being released on PlayStation consoles. The recent acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft has left fans wondering if the company will continue to release games on PlayStation.

What Happened?

In September 2020, Microsoft announced that it had acquired Bethesda Softworks and all its subsidiaries for a whopping $7.5 billion. This announcement came as a surprise to many gamers, as Bethesda was one of the biggest third-party game developers and publishers in the world.

What Microsoft Said

After the acquisition, Xbox chief Phil Spencer stated that future Bethesda titles would be “either first or better or best” on Xbox consoles and PC. This statement led many to believe that Bethesda games might no longer be released on PlayStation consoles.

Bethesda’s Response

However, Bethesda’s Senior Vice President, Pete Hines, later clarified in an interview with GameSpot that the company would still release games on other platforms on a “case-by-case basis.” Hines stated that Microsoft’s acquisition would not affect any existing agreements with other console makers.

What Does It Mean?

So what does this mean for PlayStation gamers? Well, it means that there is still hope for future Bethesda titles to be released on PlayStation consoles. However, it is likely that they might come out later than their Xbox counterparts or might not have all the exclusive features.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, while Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda has raised concerns among PlayStation fans regarding future game releases, it seems like Bethesda will continue to release games on other platforms like PlayStation on a case-by-case basis. However, it remains to be seen how this acquisition will affect future releases and if there will be any exclusivity deals in place. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
