The MLB playoffs are finally here and the Wild Card games are set to take place. The two single elimination games will determine which teams will advance to the division series. Let’s take a look at who might come out on top.

American League Wild Card Game

In the American League, we have the New York Yankees going up against the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees, with their powerhouse lineup led by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, finished the season with a record of 100-62 and secured home field advantage for this game. On the other hand, the Athletics surprised many by finishing with a record of 97-65 and clinching a Wild Card spot.

Who has the edge? While the Yankees have a clear advantage in terms of talent and home field advantage, anything can happen in a one-game playoff. The Athletics have been playing great baseball down the stretch and have some dangerous hitters of their own such as Khris Davis and Matt Chapman. It’s going to be a close game but ultimately, I think the Yankees will come out on top.

National League Wild Card Game

Over in the National League, we have another exciting matchup between two evenly matched teams – the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies. Both teams finished with identical records of 91-71 but it’s the Cubs who will host this game due to having won their division.

Who has the edge? This is a tough one to call as both teams are very talented. However, I think it’s going to come down to pitching.

Kyle Freeland has been fantastic for Colorado this year but he’ll be facing an elite lineup that includes Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. On the other hand, Jon Lester will be taking the mound for Chicago and he has plenty of postseason experience under his belt. I’m giving a slight edge to Chicago in this one.

Conclusion

While anything can happen in a one-game playoff, I’m predicting that the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs will come out on top in their respective Wild Card games. Of course, baseball is an unpredictable sport and we could see some surprises come playoff time. Regardless of who advances, it’s going to be an exciting postseason filled with plenty of drama and excitement.
